About UC-Mexico Initiative

Two UCR Students

The purpose of the UC-Mexico Initiative is to create a sustained, strategic and equal partnership between the UC and institutions in Mexico to address common issues and educate our next generation of leaders. It provides an opportunity to think broadly and to develop strategies for a robust and enduring relationship that encompasses student and faculty exchanges, celebration of our shared heritage and populations, and research and scholarly activity that solves problems and advances knowledge on issues of mutual importance. The Initiative focuses on key program areas of interest to both the US and Mexico: arts and cultures, education, energy, environment, and health.

Every UC campus has programs on Mexico, ranging from vibrant centers to individual faculty research collaborations to Education Abroad. The Initiative brings together these many activities to provide strategic direction and to create synergies among current efforts. In addition, the Initiative provides a mechanism to develop new programs and partnerships, involving academia, government, corporations and foundations on both sides of the border. A key goal is to leverage existing funding to stimulate additional investment.
