UC-Mexico Initiative

Topics of Interest

STRUCTURE AND CHARGE

Purpose:  As an organizing tool, the UC-Mexico Initiative identified five topics of interest: energy, education, environment, health, and arts and cultures. Participating members identified key issues of mutual interest to UC and partners in Mexico. The goal is to develop collaborative strategies to address these issues, including identification of near- and longer-term goals, metrics to measure success, and potential sources of external funding. In addition to establishing research collaborations, participants are identifying opportunities for increased student (undergraduate and graduate) and academic (faculty and postdoctoral fellow) exchanges.

Expectations:

  • Identification of near- and long-term critical issues and goals
  • Development of metrics to measure progress
  • Implementation of strategies to leverage UC’s investment by obtaining external funding from U.S. or Mexican government sources, corporations, foundations, or other potential sources

Impact: The goal of the UC-Mexico Initiative is to identify shared problems, bring shared resources/effort to bear toward a shared solution, and to share in the impact that those efforts produce. These topic areas provide opportunities to expand the network of collaboration across UC campuses and with Mexican partners and, at the same time, highlight accomplishments to a wider audience.
